Compact Pushchair Reviews

Whether you're taking public transport or frequently travelling by car, a light compact stroller is an excellent option. These strollers are simpler to fold and store, and they're less likely to be damaged by baggage handlers.

The Cybex Mios is another option. It bridges the two types of pushchairs and is a fully-functional system that is nimble. It can be used in a parent-facing mode right from birth and switched to a world-facing position as your child gets older. It also comes with a decent recline feature that's nap-friendly. It's not as compact as the Libelle, but it does come in smaller dimensions and is much easier to use on flat surfaces. It's not suited for rough terrain. The price is reasonable and the durability tests are top-notch.

Easy to store

The Joie Pact Pro is the ideal travel buggy, which folds down so small that it fits into an overhead luggage compartment and it weighs so little that you'll not even feel it in your car boot. It's also a great day-today stroller and our tester Hollie found it easy to steer, even while juggling her one-year-old. She appreciated the adjustable handle and lockable wheels but noted that it isn't an extremely comfortable seat. She also likes the fact that you can add other features like a reversible and washable seat cover, rain cover and an ear muff for feet.

The Babyzen YOYO is another impressively compact foldable pushchair. It isn't as streamlined as the Cybex Libelle, but it's nonetheless a great package when folded and it is easy to slot in and out of trunks and boots. It offers more newborn options in comparison to other buggies for travel. It can be equipped with the bassinet or cot for newborns as well as a bespoke ride on board for older children and an adapter for tandem seats.

The YOYO isn't the most compact pushchair for driving on uneven or rough terrain. Its tiny wheels aren't as efficient as other models we've evaluated. It's still a mobile pushchair, and the YOYO does a great job in narrow aisles and muddy paths. It's an excellent option for a family holiday pushchair or city break.

The Cosatto Bee6 is a compact travel buggy that comes with many features for a price that is surprisingly low. It can fold down to the size of a large backpack and weighs only 6kg, so it's an ideal travel buggy to transport on planes and trains. It's also easy to steer, and our MFM test driver Matt found it enjoyable to steer, even with a toddler who was heavy was on board. He also loved the hood, which is down low enough to protect from rain and sun and facilitate naps. Its only drawback is that there isn't a storage space under the seat and you'll have to carry or hang your bag over the handlebars (against the advice of an expert!). Alternately, you can buy an additional changing bag holder to make this an ideal holiday buggy.

Easy to Manoeuvre

The wheels on compact pushchairs may appear small, but they often do surprisingly well, and can navigate narrow aisles for shopping or rough terrain effortlessly. The Micralite is an excellent example. Although it has small wheels, it can navigate rough pavements with ease, turn sharply on narrow roads, and handle light gravel with little problem. It also has a smooth steering system that is easy to steer with just one hand. It folds into a neat and compact box that can be easily tucked away into its bag for transport.

Most compact pushchairs are designed for toddlers and older children however, an increasing number offer a lie-flat seating or the option to add an additional carrycot (or baby car seat) to ensure they are suitable from birth. These concertina or Z fold buggies are typically light with a weight of 6-8kg. They can also be approved for cabin use by a number of airlines. MFM Editor Gemma has used hers numerous occasions and says it's extremely simple to use and pack away.

If you are looking for a compact fold then the YOYO is a fantastic choice. It was the first buggy to offer this feature. It is still a popular choice for parents who prefer it over its imitators because of its clever details and superior performance. It's the ideal option for frequent travellers particularly if you wish to avoid the hassle of waiting at baggage checkpoints and instead bring your stroller onboard with you.
